We underestimate the impact of
our smallest actions. We tell
ourselves they are too small to matter, as if
our belief can only come from
sweeping or dramatic or epic
action. But the truth is the opposite.
Belief grows from repetition, consistency,
and proof. Acting as if is not
pretending. Acting as if is called
alignment.
Welcome to the Pivot With Passion podcast. Hi, I'm
Penny Casselman. I believe everyone is deserving of a
phenomenal life. Regardless of where you came from, life is
what you make of it. And when you learn to pivot with pass passion,
your world explodes with opportunities. Go
grab your favorite beverage and let's shake things up as we
explore how to pivot with passion.
Director welcome to another episode.
Thank you for pushing Play. I will always
say thank you because I know how
many things are pulling at your attention right now.
And give yourself a pat on the back because unlike most people,
you are showing up to step into the best
version of you. Now, when this
episode drops, it will be Wednesday,
November 19th. And I have to tell
you that Cleveland already lit
up like it's December 25th. And for
those of you not sitting in front of a calendar, we
haven't even arrived at American
Thanksgiving yet. I have been running
errands this week, and everywhere
I turned, stores, houses,
entire neighborhoods, the holiday energy
is in full swing. People are planning,
preparing, decorating, and creating excitement
for a day that hasn't arrived
yet. And during all of that driving around looking at
all of the magnificent and some
slightly gaudy decorations, a question
hit why don't we get this excited about our
future? What we want may not be here
yet, but that doesn't mean we can't
prepare for it, anticipate it, create
energy around. And let me say, hand raised
over here because there have been so
many times in my recent past where
I was lacking the energy about the
future I'm stepping into. Which is why this entire episode
was created because of that simple
epiphany. Why don't we get excited for
our future as we get gearing up for the
holidays today, I want to explore how to
build belief by behaving as
if your future is already
certainly on its way. I know that belief
does not fall out of the sky. You don't wake
up one morning and suddenly have a
download of 100%
certainty. You see, belief is built
layer by layer, win by win, choice
by by choice, action upon action.
However, most people wait for belief.
They wait for it to show up. And I am here to
tell you that high performers build
it. How thankful am I to
be a High performance coach. Because I
caught that thought so quickly in my
mind and realized exactly what I'm going
to share with you today. And that is I
must build that belief that my
future is already
certainly on its way. I know that
confidence grows when you give yourself proof
that you feel follow through. Every aligned action,
every tiny step becomes
evidence that you're someone who keeps
moving forward. And sometimes we are the
biggest obstacle in our way. We don't take time to
celebrate those small steps that we take. We don't
pause long enough to give ourselves credit
for what we are working on. But each one of
those actions, those thoughts, those behaviors, they create
this bank of belief that carries you
from being doubtful to showing up with
certainty. Thinking back to my drive through
Cleveland holiday decor does not go up
on Christmas Day. It goes up weeks in advance,
sometimes a few too many weeks in advance.
However, it's because everyone is preparing
for what's coming. They're already living
in this anticipation, this excitement of
celebration and connection long before
any of it actually happens. And what I'm
challenging you to do today is to treat
your future in the exact same
way. When you take action towards what you
want, even when it still feels
far away, you build that same
anticipatory energy, that excitement.
You signal to your brain that your future
is real. It is important that your
future is real. It's important and
worth preparing for. That director
is belief in motion.
It's time for a clarity cocktail.
Today's clarity cocktail comes from William James,
and he shares, act as if what you do makes a difference.
It does. Boom, there it is. Super
simple, stripped down. Act as if what you do
makes a difference. It does. Here is
why that quote matters. Today we
underestimate the impact of our
smallest actions. We tell ourselves they
are too small to matter. As if our
belief can only come from
sweeping or dramatic or epic
action. But the truth is the opposite.
Belief grows from repetition,
consistency, and proof. Acting as
if is not pretending. Acting as
if is called alignment. You
are stepping into the person
you are becoming in anticipation of
everything you are calling into existence.
When you behave like someone who honors their commitments,
even those tiny small
steps, you build a powerful
internal message in your brain. And that is, I
can trust myself. Let me share that with you
again. When you behave like someone who
honors their commitments, regardless of
how small, you build a powerful internal
message that tells you, I can trust
myself. Think of it like a piggy bank. And every
time you behave and honor your commitments,
you're dropping a coin into that
belief bank. And that is filling up
with the idea that you can trust yourself. And
when that begins to build, that becomes your
belief. And belief turns into
confidence, and confidence turns
into momentum. When you act as if
your future is already unfolding. You
train your brain to participate with
you. You train anticipation. You train
energy and direction. The magic isn't
in looking the part. It is in
living the part. One small,
intentional action at a time. I'll read the quote one more
time and I want you to really listen and embrace
every word that William James shares. Act
as if what you do makes a difference. It does.
And now back to the episode. Cheers.
Circling back to this idea of how to believe in yourself again,
even when the results aren't here yet.
Here are some reasons why people struggle, and you
might find yourself in one of these categories.
Do you wait for belief to come before
you begin? Think about that. Do you pause on taking
action because you are waiting for the belief
to hit you first? Or perhaps you want
certainty before you move. You won't take
action until you are certain that it's right.
Side note here, Director. None of us have a
Magic 8 ball. And another reason that people
struggle. They want that full
confidence before taking a single step. Confidence,
like belief, does not fall out of the sky. You
build it. And in all three scenarios, either
waiting for belief before you begin wanting
certainty before you take action, or
embracing full confidence before moving forward.
Belief isn't something that arrives first.
It arrives because you took action.
You were courageous in moving forward.
Waiting serves no one and it slows
everything down. Preparation
accelerates belief. Director. If you
find yourself in that in between space
where you know what you want but aren't sure if you can
actually create it, don't wait to feel
ready. Build the belief that will
carry you there. Director. Now I want to offer
three ways that help to support you in
believing in yourself again. The first
way, prepare for your next level before
it arrives. Can you think of one small action
that represents the future you're
becoming? The person that you must
show up as in order to embrace
the future you want. Like I mentioned earlier, when you
signal to your brain that you are preparing
that you are courageous to take that next action that
signals commitment and builds momentum,
you are putting the coin of belief
into your belief bank. The second
thing, track evidence of follow through.
This one is huge. Because in
today's culture, we are trained
to make snap decisions and move on quickly.
Look no further than Netflix or
scrolling through social media. They prompt
you to make a selection quickly. Is this
good? Is it bad? Do I Want to watch this? Do I not want to watch this? Should I
fast forward? Should I pause? And because of that, when
we make progress, when we take a very small
action, we tend to not
pause and celebrate it. So you must
notice these small actions
that add to your belief bank. Perhaps it's a boundary
that you honored. Maybe the workout you completed.
Maybe it's simply you did not hit
snooze today and instead got up
the minute your alarm went off. Those
are all examples of tiny wins
that perhaps in the moment didn't feel like wins at all.
It felt like I'm doing what I'm supposed to do.
But we must recognize those in order
to show ourselves today and step into
our future self, that we are
confident in the direction we are headed. Because
each tiny action becomes a coin
in your belief bank. And the third way
is to celebrate anticipation instead
of fearing the unknown. Think of it in the same
vein as how we look forward to the holidays,
how you look forward to a vacation, how you look forward to
milestones. Maybe it's a birthday. Maybe it's retirement. Maybe
it's landing a new job. Maybe it's starting a new
venture. You must let your future
be something exciting because anticipation
builds confidence long before the
results show up. Director, your future
deserves the same excitement we bring
to the biggest moments in our lives. When
you prepare for what you want even before
it arrives, you strengthen the belief that you
can create it. If anything in this
episode resonated with you and you are ready to
deepen your momentum, I'd love to see you
inside one of my live masterclasses this month.
